Ammo Stockpiling and Storage
This is a subject often discussed yet misunderstood by anti-gun folks so I want to approach this a little differently.
First and foremost, ammo is the most important part of a firearm without it any gun is just a paperweight, club, or hammer no matter how much you paid for it. This is why the left is attacking ammo with laws and regulation. Who knows they may come up with some crazy law on how much of it you can own?

Whenever you hear news about some poor guy gets his firearms taken away, legally or not, there is always the inventory. They may say; Joe Blow had a huge stockpile of guns and ammunition, then list the items like 2 AR 15s, 3 deer rifles, 2 shotguns, multiple pistols, and over 1,000 rounds of ammo! The myth is that a person with a lot of ammo is a bad guy.

To a gun guy, or gal, that list sounds like a starter kit. If you look around at just about any prepper website, the consensus for ammo storage is a MINIMUM of 1,000 rounds per firearm for SHTF. I’ve heard stories of folks with 20, 30, or 50,000 rounds, per gun. Actually, that really isn’t that much.
A good day at the range, or a three-day training course can put a big dent in that stockpile. I’ve actually spoken with a person or two, who own guns, love the second Amendment yet can’t understand stockpiling.
If you believe one day something really bad could happen, like huge fees, extra taxes, or even restrictions could make ammo prices go up, it’s only common sense to store up as much as you can, just be sure to properly store it. Of course the SHTF issue from a man-made or natural cause is a possibility.
Storing ammo is actually pretty simple and everybody has their preferred method, here is one idea. Get good ammo cans with an O-ring, 50cal is a good size and readily available. After you put the ammo in, add a desiccant packet and lock it up. Also, add a label of what it is, dates stored and rotate your stock.

Desiccant packs are not that expensive but some folks get ‘crystal’ kitty litter made of the same material, silica gel only, and make their own even cheaper. A larger size can be used in a gun safe or storage cabinet as well. Just make sure your stockpile is safely stored and secured so kids or visitors to your home don’t get into it. And always, be safe!
